Usually, our Surrey and Langley dentists only consider a tooth extraction when less invasive procedures would likely be fruitless.
Tooth extractions (or the complete removal of the tooth) are only necessary in the following situations:
- If a tooth is damaged to the degree that it cannot be saved, either by breakage or decay
- If a tooth is impacted or otherwise causing damage to the surrounding teeth (as wisdom teeth so often do)
Whenever possible, your dentist will choose to preserve a damaged tooth in the mouth, because empty spaces left by missing teeth can sometimes cause other dental problems. If the damaged tooth can be fixed with a filling, inlay, onlay, crown, or root canal, these types of restorations are preferable.
