Dental sedation is not usually offered for regular dental cleanings or checkups, however, we may be able to offer it for patients suffering with extreme anxiety.
Who needs sedation for dentistry?
You may consider dental sedation if you recognize issues that you suffer from in any of the following points:
- Phobia around dental procedures
- Small mouth that becomes sore during dental work
- Resistance to local anesthetic
- General anxiety disorder
- Previous bad experience(s) with dental work
- Unusually sensitive oral nerves
For patients who suffer from any of the above issues dental sedation could help them to undergo the treatment that they need. For example, dental sedation can help patients get through a number of procedures from root canals to tooth extractions and dental implant procedures, with a minimum of stress.
Dental sedation is not typically offered for routine dental care such as regular cleanings and x-rays. However, dental sedation may be considered for those procedures in cases where the patient suffers from extreme anxiety.
How do I know if dental sedation is right for me?
If you feel extremely anxious about the prospect of going to the dentist, speak to your dentist. They will be able to advise you on whether dental sedation is right for you, and if so, what type would be most beneficial in your case.
