How to Keep Your Smile White After Whitening

How to Keep Your Smile White After Whitening

After investing in professional teeth whitening you’ll probably want to keep your smile looking bright! Here are a few tips from our dentists on how to keep your smile white following your teeth whitening treatment.

Brush & Floss Thoroughly

In order to keep your teeth white, brushing and flossing sufficiently and regularly is key. Brushing well will help you remove surface stains and keep them from settling in. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day every day, for two minutes at a time, and floss your teeth daily.

It's important to be thorough. Gently brush all four quadrants of your mouth for 30 seconds each, and don’t stop until you have completed two full minutes of brushing. An electric toothbrush with a round, rotating head really helps with this process. Many electric toothbrushes come with built in timers to let you know when the two minutes is up.

Avoid Dark-Coloured Foods and Drinks

Dark berries, coffee, tea, and even spices like curry, should be consumed in moderation in order to avoid staining your teeth. Remember that dark pigmented foods or drinks can cause tooth discolouration over time.

Quit Smoking

If you really need another reason to quit smoking, consider your teeth. Smoking discolours teeth like nothing else, gradually turning your teeth yellow or possibly even brown.

If you want to keep your smile sparkling white, toss those smokes in the trash!

Occasional Touch Ups

The effects of your whitening treatment may wear off a bit as the days go by. If this happens, it could be time for a touch up. You can re-use the whitening trays that your dentist has provided you with, and just order some more of the whitening solution.
