For some of our patients, dental implants can be a great way to replace missing teeth. However, dental implants aren't suitable for everyone. Here's more about who might be good candidate for dental implants.
Dental implants are a natural looking, permanent tooth replacement option worth considering, if you have missing teeth.
That said, not everyone is a good candidate for dental implants. The patient must have a strong healthy jawbone and gums in order to support dental implants.
For patients who suffer from oral health problems such as gingivitis, or bone loss due to a tooth abscess, dental implants may not be suitable.
In some cases, in order to make dental implants a viable option, a bone graft can be done to help to strengthen the patient's jawbone.
When bone grafting is required, the surgeon will take a section of bone from a different part of the body, or use a special bone grafting material, and graft it onto the jaw.
Bone grafting may take several months to completely heal, but once it's healed the dentist will be able to begin with the dental implant process.
