Our Surrey and Langley dentists understand that it will take a little time for you to get used to caring for your new dentures. Just follow the tips below and soon you will have a daily oral hygiene routine that will keep your dentures looking great for years to come.
Dentures can help to restore the look and function of your smile, and help to boost your self confidence. But to keep your smile looking and working it's very best, caring for your new dentures properly is key.
As with your natural teeth, it's important to brush and clean your dentures every day.
Clean Dentures Daily
To clean your dentures properly, use plain water and a soft denture brush to gently brush and clean your dentures. Take your time and be sure to clean every area of your dentures.
Be extra careful when you clean around any of the attachments, since these could bend. Never use toothpaste on your dentures. Regular toothpaste is too harsh for delicate dentures and could damage them.
To keep your smile looking great and free from food particles it's a good idea to rinse your dentures with water after each meal.
Soak Dentures Each Night
To make your dentures easier to clean soak them each night. Soaking helps to loosen the plaque and tartar that builds up on the dentures over the course of the day.
Each night, before going to bed remove your dentures and leave them to soak in either plain warm water or warm water with denture cleaner. Avoid using denture solutions if your dentures have metal attachments. Denture solutions may tarnish the metal.
Remember, soaking dentures is not a substitute for cleaning and brushing them properly! To keep your dentures looking great and fitting well, a daily routine of soaking and brushing is essential.
Treat Dentures With Care
Our Surrey and Langley dentists recommend that you place a folded towel in the sink, (or on the bathroom vanity), while you are handling your dentures. A folded towel can act as a cushion to help protect your dentures from being damaged, if you accidentally drop them.
Whenever you aren't wearing your dentures store them in water to prevent them from drying out.
